The Eni Corporate University announces a competition for an academic course that leads to a Master`s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics - MEDEA. The course is organized and managed by the Scuola Enrico Mattei.

The Master is offered to Italian and foreign university graduates that are interested in career paths within firms, authorities and other institutions operating in the energy and environmental sectors. For the Academic Year, the Scuola Enrico Mattei will assign a maximum of 50 scholarships.

Three programs of the MEDEA are offered:

* Energy Industry Economics
* Business Administration in Energy Industry
* Managing Technical Assets in Energy Industry

The program is articulated on three phases, with an increasing degree of specialisation. All profiles consist of preliminary courses, followed by fundamental courses and by specialisation classes.

The Academic Year runs for ten months, from September 5, 2007 through to June 27, 2008. Full-time attendance is required. Since courses are conducted in Italian and in English, an intensive Italian language course will be held during the summer of 2007. Those who have successfully completed the programme of study will be awarded a Master`s Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics - MEDEA.

REQUIREMENTS

Admission is subject to the following requirements:

* university degree in Italy, or an equivalent academic qualification abroad, in departments of: Business Administration, Chemistry, Economics, Engineering, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, International Law, Physics and Statistics;

We have received funding for a high-precision imaging polarimeter to study the formation, evolution and structure of extra-solar planetary systems by detecting the polarization of starlight scattered by circumstellar material. The available position will primarily be in the areas of data analysis, interpretation, and modelling. The student will also have the opportunity to contribute to the design, construction, and calibration of the instrument.

The position is available starting from June 1, 2007 as a full-time temporary appointment for four years. Gross salary starts with 1956 euro per month and increases to 2502 euro in the fourth year of employment. The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 3% per year. The selection is held annually by a Selection Committee consisting of competent authorities and expert representing both Italy and Indonesia. This Scholarship grants are distributed for students, professionals, teachers, and artists who meet the necessary requirements for enrollment in any Italian post-secondary institutions (universities, academies, conservatories, art restoration institutes, National School of Cinematography, research centers or laboratories, libraries, archives, museums and other national or nationally-recognized institutions), and who would like to attend specialization courses or to conduct research in specific fields. For Italian language study, the scholarships are awarded for specific programs which are held at the Universities for Foreigners in Perugia, Siena and Roma Tre or at the other recognized institutions (which are authorized to issue certification of Italian as a second language).

The short-term scholarships are distributed in the range period between one to nine months and are reserved primarily for courses in Italian language and culture. Applicants must possess a high school diploma at the time they apply and must be 35 years of age or younger (minimum maturity age is 18 years old for Indonesian citizen).

Italian language and culture courses of a one-month period are reserved for Italian language teachers to whom no age limit applies, and for 3rd year University students in the Italian Studies Department.

Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must be Indonesian citizens.

Must have finished Bachelor (S1) of Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering.

Courses must have included unit of fundamental mathematics in linear algebra, Fourier methods, and probability theory.

Students must have taken (and passed with distinction) a general course on Signals and Systems, including material on: continuous and discrete time signals, sampling, linear filters and systems, and Fourier methods.

Applicants must have good oral and written skills in English, and a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (245 for computer-based test, or 85 for Internet-based test) or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

Selection and Verification Process

Ericsson works with KTH to identify and select scholarship recipients.

Judges decisions are final and no correspondences will be entertained.

The academic year starts in August 2007 and lasts until June 2009 (including examinations).

Student should be arrived at KTH in early August 2007.

Applicants should be in healthy condition and it is supported by recommendation letter by the general practitioner from local hospital.

Announcement of the Scholarship Award Recipients

The winner is expected to be in Jakarta on May 29 to receive the award.

The Gas Turbine Engineering Group is based within the Department of Power, Propulsion and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering, Cranfield University.

A key focus of this group is peformance research. The core of performance analysis is a model of the power system assembled from aerodynamic, thermal or electrical component characteristics within a thermodynamic framework. Currently aircraft propulsion is dominated by the gas turbine, but the modelling techniques are adaptable to other, novel power systems, both for propulsion and land based power generation. Accurate performance prediction is crucial to identifying the optimum vehicle configuration as well as the technologies and the risk mitigation strategies required to realise it. Cranfield has a proven track record in power plant performance analysis together with expertise in airframe design, aircraft systems and aircraft operation which has been built up over the last 50 years. This provides a unique capability within the UK for optimising the power system in the context of the whole vehicle and meeting the long term needs of the community.

The Embassy of Japan has begun offering scholarships to Indonesian students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students for the academic year 2008 under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship program. Any grantee who desires to enroll in a regular graduate course (a master’s course, a doctoral course or a professional graduate course) after studying as a research student or to move on from a master’s course or a professional graduate course to a doctoral course must pass an entrance examination given by the university concerned.

Applicants must have the following qualifications (among others) :
1. Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1973.
2. Applicants must have received from their university a GPA of 3.0 or higher or must have achieved a total score of 260 or higher in 2 subjects (except the subject of “Japanese”) in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).

In mission to contribute to the development of business communities in Indonesia, Prasetiya Mulya Business School, established in September 1982 with the aim to serve as an excellent center of learning for its partners: business entrepreneurs, professionals, and researchers, offers scholarship to outstanding Indonesian future leaders to continue their education in business through its Magister Manajemen full time degree program. The scholarship awards are open to highly talented and potential leaders with excellent academic qualities but financially disadvantaged. [Germany] PhD position in Ceramics Science at Darmstadt University of Technology

A PhD position (Doktorandenstellen ) is available at the Materials Science Department of Darmstadt University of Technology (Germany). The successful candidate will integrate a young research team focusing on the development of new ceramic processes in a dynamic and international work environment.

The drying is a necessary step in the manufacturing of ceramic layers when using particle suspensions. The evaporation of solvent induces shrinkage and stresses in the drying layer, which can create cracks and delamination from the substrate. Experimental work encompasses thin film processing and in-situ measurement of physical and mechanical properties by means of innovative techniques during drying. The experimental data will be used to develop a predictive model of drying.

The Rockefeller Archives Center and Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action [ARNOVA] invite applications for a first International Research Fellowship. The purpose of this fellowship is to encourage and provide support for attendance at ARNOVA’s Annual Conference, and research using the Rockefeller Archive Center [RAC], by scholars from outside the U.S. and Canada. The fellowship award will provide $4000 intended to cover the costs of travel to and attendance at the ARNOVA Conference, and to the RAC for a time of research at the Archives.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they have a scholarly research project that will benefit from attending the ARNOVA Conference and requires research at the Rockefeller Archive Center . They must also have a record of prior scholarship, which may be a thesis or dissertation. Applicants must contact the RAC at least one month prior to applying for the fellowship so that they can clearly identify in the application substantial archival materials that are related to their research project. Expectations

Applicants must plan on attending the entire ARNOVA Conference. (Conference registration fees will be waived.) In addition, they must plan on spending at least three days at the RAC for the purpose of conducting their research. The fellowship is expected to cover the full costs of travel, lodging, meals and incidentals. (No supplemental funds will be available.) They must also be able to obtain a travel visa for the dates of the ARNOVA Conference (November 15-17, 2007) and time spent at RAC. Half of the award will be provided two months prior to the dates of the conference, with the balance to be paid at the completion of the conference and the time of research.

Applicants should send a letter of no more than four pages describing the research project they will pursue, its purposes, and the methodology they will employ. This should also describe how participation in the ARNOVA Conference and use of the RAC will help move this project forward. (As noted above, contact with the RAC prior to sending in the application is necessary.) They should also include records of prior scholarly accomplishments – that is, graduate transcripts, certification of their advanced degree, or the like. They may include a short sample of scholarly writing demonstrating their research abilities.

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) was established in 1966 under the auspices of Korean and US governments. The mission of KIST was to assume a central role as the first comprehensive research agency for the promotion of the nation’s economic growth and the modernization of engineering fields. It has since developed into the foremost R&D organization and the foundation of technological development in Korea.

The scholarship awardees will be provided with a monthly stipend 800,000 Korean won(around US $800) for Master, and 1,100,000 Korean won (around US $1,100) for Ph.D. programs throughout their study. No tuition or registration fees are charged. All applicants should keep in mind the admission timetable in IRDA as follows.

Applications for the IRDA program will be accepted twice annually. Admission periods are for both the Fall and Spring semesters. The current deadlines are as follows:

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) invites applicants for 2 PhD scholarships starting summer/fall 2007 within the "Computer Supported Mobile Adaptive Business Processes (CosmoBiz)" research project funded by the research council for technology and production (grant no 274-06-0415).

Generel information:
The PhD scholarships run for a period of three or four years depending on the educational level of the student. A three-year scholarship can only be awarded to applicants with a Master’s degree equivalent to a Danish graduate degree. Students with the equivalence of 4 years of university studies - where one year (60 ECTS) is transferable to one of the Master of IT programs at ITU - can be awarded a four-year scholarship.

Tips Mendapatkan Beasiswa Monbusho

Beasiswa ini dinamakan Monbusho Research Student, sebab pada dasarnya beasiswa diberikan untuk program research student (program non gelar selama 1.5 atau 2 tahun saja, tergantung Monbusho recommended by Embassy atau recommended by University). Jadi penerima beasiswa ini pada awalnya diberikan hanya untuk 1.5 th atau 2 th buat Research Student (program Non Gelar). Tetapi selama 1.5 th atau 2 th itu jika penerima beasiswa bisa masuk program S2 ataupun S3, beasiswa akan diperpanjang dan statusnya jadi beasiswa S2 atau beasiswa S3.

Untuk mendapatkan beasiswa monbusho research student ini ada 2 macam :

Monbusho Recommended by Embassy (di Indonesia, dikenal dengan nama Monbusho G to G)

Monbusho Recommended by University (di Indonesia, dikenal dengan nama Monbusho U to U)

untuk selanjutnya sebut aja beasiswa Monbusho G to G dan Monbusho U to U (tapi ingat istilah ini hanya ada di Indonesia).

Cara untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho Research Student :

1. Untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho G to G
untuk mendapatkan beasiswa ini, pelamar bisa menghubungi Kedutaan Besar Jepang di Jakarta. Tetapi syarat mutlak yang mesti dipenuhi adalah bahwa pelamar harus statusnya PNS (pegawai Negeri Sipil) atau karyawan BUMN. Selain tersebut tidak bisa mendaftar. Pihak kedutaan besar Jepang telah bekerja sama dengan Pemerintah Indonesia (dalam hal ini pemerintah Indonesia memohon kepada pihak Kedutaan Jepang agar pelamar hanya diperbolehkan khusus untuk PNS atau karyawan BUMN). Sebenarnya Pihak Monbusho (Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture JAPAN) tidak mensyaratkan
demikian, hanya pemerintah Indonesia saja yang menginginkannya. Jadi kita tidak menjumpai syarat-syarat demikian di berbagai negara lain seperti : China, Korea, Malaysia. Thailand, Philipina, Perancis, Kroasia, German, USA, Inggris, Mesir, Iran dll.
Persyaratan lain, sistem seleksi diatur oleh masing-masing Kedutaan Besar Jepang di negara yang bersangkutan. Beasiswa Monbusho G to G ini untuk Indonesia quotanya sekitar 50 orang, dan biasanya jatah buat PNS dari Departemen Pendidikan (dalam hal ini
dosen) sekitar 35 orang dan 15 orang dari Departemen lain atau dari BUMN. Bagi yang berhasil lulus atau berhasil mendapatkan beasiswa ini, maka penerima akan mendapatkan beasiswa research student selama jangka waktu 2 tahun (non gelar).

Dalam masa research student tersebut di universitas jepang yang dipilihnya, mereka sekolah bahasa jepang, dan persiapan untuk ujian masuk S2 bagi yang ingin melanjutkan program S2 dan ujian masuk S3 bagi yang ingin melanjutkan program S3. Ujian masuk universitas diatur oleh masing-masing universitas yang dipilih. Ada universitas jepang yang tiap setengah tahun ngadakan ujian masuk, ada juga setiap tahun sekali ujian masuknya. Jika dalam tahun pertama atau pertengahan tahun pertama saudara lulus ujian masuk S2 atau S3 maka status beasiswa research student yang masa waktunya masih lebih akan otomatis di cancel (dihentikan) dan saudara di daftar sebagai penerima beasiswa S2 (dua tahun lagi, buat yang akan masuk S2) dan S3 (tiga tahun lagi, buat yang akan masuk S3). Tetapi jika dalam masa research student tsb saudara gagal masuk ujian pertama,
maka saudara bisa mengikuti ujian masuk ke dua dan ketiga sampai masa research habis. Jika sampai masa research student habis dan saudara belum bisa masuk ujian, maka saudara di pulangkan. Untuk yang masuk S2, setelah saudara menyelesaikan program Master, dan jika saudara berkeinginan untuk melanjutkan program S3 maka
saudara bisa memperpanjang beasiswa itu untuk masuk program S3 (dan beasiswa akan diperpanjang lagi 3 tahun ke depan).

2. Untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho U to U
Bagi yang bukan PNS atau karyawan BUMN, yang sudah jelas-jelas nggak bisa ikut Monbusho G to G, jangan kuatir ada cara lain untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho yaitu beasiswa Monbusho U to U (tapi ini istilah di Indonesia saja) untuk istilah di Jepangnya, Monbusho Recommended by University (artinya universitas Jepang merekomendasikan calon ke Monbusho). Sebenarnya rekomendation diberikan oleh Professor Jepang yang diteruskan ke Universitasnya dan Universitas merekomendasikan ke Monbusho.
Lalu bagaimana cara untuk mendapatkannya ?

Kontak salah satu Professor Jepang yang sesuai bidang anda, dan mulailah kenalan-kenalan baik lewat e-mail, surat pos, Facsimile, maupun telepon. Pertama katakan bahwa saudara tertarik/interest dengan research topik di lab. Profesor tersebut, dan katakan juga bahwa saudara pengen sekali gabung dengan lab. tsb untuk melanjutkan study master atau doktor. Dalam surat perkenalan pertama itu sedapat mungkin saudara menyertakan CV, ringkasan riset yang pernah saudara kerjakan dan rencana riset/tema riset yang ingin saudara lakukan. Setelah menjalin beberapa kali kontak dengan Professor (artinya kalau Professor sudah OK untuk menerima saudara) maka tanyakan ada kemungkinan dia mencalonkan (merekomendasikan ) orang asing untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho nggak. Saat saudara tanya tentang beasiswa Monbusho ke Professor tersebut, biasanya saudara di anjurkan untuk mengikuti Monbusho yang lewat Embassy di negara masing-masing, setelah saudara berhasil, saudara bisa ngontak Professor tersebut lagi untuk membimbing saudara. Memang jawaban seperti diatas sering sekali diucapkan oleh Professor Jepang.

Ada kemungkinan bahwa Professor sibuk dan nggak mau ngurus (sebab untuk apply monbusho recommended by university, Professor lah yang sibuk sekali mulai dari ngambil application ke Foreign Student Office di Universitasnya, terus Professor mengirimkan application itu ke calon mahasiswa, dan setelah diisi oleh calon mahasiswa, terus Professor memberikan application itu ke Foreign Student Office lagi setelah dia ngasih rekomendasi). Kemungkinan lainnya adalah bahwa Professor itu tidak tahu bagaimana cara apply Monbusho recommended by University, mereka hanya tahu cuman dari Embassy saja. Dalam hal ini Saudara harus dengan hati-hati menjelaskan bahwa Professor punya hak untuk merekomendasikan mahasiswa asing untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Monbusho dan bisa ditanyakan ke Foreign Student Office Universitasnya.

Dalam mengontak Professor Jepang usahakan Professor yang ada di universitas negeri. Universitas negeri dapat jatah beasiswa Monbusho besar sekali. Universitas-universitas negeri yang terkenal misalnya :

Surat perkenalan pertama ke Professor Jepang kadang-kadang tidak di jawab. Banyak kemungkinannya, antara lain Professor tersebut tidak bagus Englishnya sehingga untuk membalas dalam bahasa Inggris dia butuh waktu lama, padahal dia sibuk sekali.
Kemungkinan lain di lab. Professor tersebut udah penuh, artinya tidak bisa menampung lagi mahasiswa baru. Tapi jangan kuatir masih ada ribuan Professor-professor yang tersebar di seluruh Universitas di Jepang, silahkan saudara mencoba untuk kontak ke
Professor lainnya.
Cara yang terbagus adalah jika kenalan dengan Professor Jepang dilakukan pada saat ketemu di Conference, Scientific meeting, Kunjungan-kunjungan lab, atau pas ada kerja sama sehingga Professor Jepang datang ke Indonesia. Kalau ada kesempatan seperti
itu, bisa saudara manfaatkan sebaik-baiknya.
Jika semuanya udah OK, dalam arti Professor sanggup menguruskan beasiswa Monbusho, maka Professor lah yang sibuk. Mulai dari ngambil application di Foreign Student Office di Universitasnya, terus ngirim application itu ke saudara (setelah saudara isi lengkap, saudara diharapkan ngembalikan ke Professor lagi), terus Professor ngembalikan lagi application yang sudah saudara isi lengkap ke Foreign Student Office dengan Professor tsb menyertakan rekomendasi bahwa saudara diterima di lab-nya.
Akhirnya Foreign Student Office merekomendasikan candidate ke Monbusho. Setelah diproses oleh Monbusho hasil pengumumannya di beritahukan ke Universitas, dan Universitas memberitahu ke Professor bahwa calon yang direkomendasikan oleh Professor tsb berhasil. Barusan setelah itu Professor memberi tahu saudara. Segala urusan mengenai kedatangan dan penjemputan saudara di urus oleh Professor.

Setelah dapat pemberitahuan bahwa saudara dinyatakan sukses sebagai penerima beasiswa Monbusho, saudara akan mendapatkan sertifikat pernyataan bahwa saudara berhak menerima beasiswa Monbusho untuk research student selama 1.5 tahun. Setelah
mendapatkan beasiswa research student, maka proses berikutnya sama persis dengan beasiswa Monbusho G to G. Hanya waktu research student beasiswa monbusho U to U cuman 1.5 tahun.

Dalam masa research student tersebut saudara harus belajar bahasa jepang, dan persiapan untuk ujian masuk S2 bagi yang ingin melanjutkan program S2 dan ujian masuk S3 bagi yang ingin melanjutkan program S3. Ujian masuk universitas diatur oleh masing-
masing universitas yang dipilih. Ada universitas jepang yang tiap setengah tahun ngadakan ujian masuk, ada juga setiap tahun sekali ujian masuknya. Jika dalam tahun pertama atau pertengahan tahun pertama saudara lulus ujian masuk S2 atau S3 maka status beasiswa research student yang masa waktunya masih lebih akan otomatis di
cancel (dihentikan) dan saudara di daftar sebagai penerima beasiswa S2 (dua tahun lagi, buat yang akan masuk S2) dan S3 (tiga tahun lagi, buat yang akan masuk S3). Tetapi jika dalam masa research student tsb saudara gagal masuk ujian pertama, maka
saudara bisa mengikuti ujian masuk ke dua dan ketiga sampai masa research habis. Jika sampai masa research student habis dan saudara belum bisa masuk ujian, maka saudara di pulangkan. Untuk yang masuk S2, setelah saudara menyelesaikan program Master, dan
jika saudara berkeinginan untuk melanjutkan program S3 maka saudara bisa memperpanjang beasiswa itu untuk masuk program S3 (dan beasiswa akan diperpanjang lagi 3 tahun ke depan).

Nah kesempatan ini, yang bisa di dapat oleh setiap orang tanpa kecuali (tidak harus PNS ataupun karyawan BUMN). Disamping tidak ada quota kita bisa meminta rekomendasi dari berbagai pilihan banyak Professor-Professor Jepang yang tersebar di seluruh universitas Jepang. Dan prosedur beasiswa ini tidak ada hubungannya dengan Kedutaan Jepang di Indonesia. Hanya saja jika saudara diterima beasiswa ini pihak kedutaan jepang mengharapkan saudara untuk melapor bahwa saudara di terima beasiswa monbusho.

Formulir beasiswa monbusho U to U ini bisa di dapat di Foreign Student Office TIT sekitar bulan Desember, tetapi yang berhak mengambil hanya Professor TIT saja, mahasiswa tidak diperbolehkan. Formulir harus diserahkan ke Foreign Student Office TIT paling
lambat 31 Maret, setelah formulir diisi lengkap oleh applicant dan sudah di kasih rekomendasi oleh Professor TIT. Penyerahan formulir ke Foreign Student Office hanya bisa dilakukan oleh Professor TIT.
Aplicant tidak diperbolehkan menyerahkan application langsung.
Pihak Foreign Student Office TIT akan merekomendasikan calon ke Monbusho sekitar pertengahan April. Monbusho akan menyeleksi dan menginformasikan ke Pihak Foreign Student Office TIT pada pertangahan Agustus. Awal Oktober calon mahasiswa diharapkan
kedatangannya ke Jepang. Semua urusan eligibility untuk pengurusan VISA, tiket pesawat ke Jepang diurus semua oleh Foreign Student Office TIT.

Untuk universitas lain seperti The University of Tokyo, Kyoto University dll, deadline penyerahan application, pengumuman serta tata caranya berbeda dengan TIT. Setiap universitas punya aturan yang berbeda-beda.

Perbedaan Beasiswa Monbusho G to G dengan Monbusho U to U

1. Saat pengajuan (saat apply)
Untuk Monbusho G to G, pengajuannya di Kedutaan Jepang (Jakarta), proses seleksi di atur oleh pihak kedutaan Jepang. Syarat utamanya adalah harus PNS atau karyawan BUMN
Untuk Monbusho U to U, pengajuannya ke Professor Jepang dan diteruskan ke Universitas Jepang. Tidak ada persyaratan khusus untuk mendapatkan beasiswa ini (tidak harus PNS atau karywana BUMN).

2. Seleksi
Untuk Monbusho G to G, seleksi diadakan oleh kedutaan Jepang. seleksi tahap pertama penyeleksian dari dokumen-dokumen yang diserahkan pada saat aply, seleksi berikutnya adalah wawancara. Untuk Monbusho U to U, tidak ada sistem seleksi, jika Professor
sudah OK (dalam arti ngasih rekomendasi), maka universitas akan melanjutkan untuk merekomendasikan ke Monbusho. Tetapi jika di universitas tsb terlalu banyak permintaan dari Professor (jumlah Professor yang apply banyak) maka universitas mengadakan seleksi, biasanya seleksi di dasarkan pada kesenioritasan Professor. Untuk itu, usahakan nyari Professor yang senior, yang sudah Full Professor bukan yang Associate Professor. Hal ini untuk menjaga kemungkinan adanya kejadian diatas.

Untuk Monbusho G to G , jangka waktu beasiswa research student adalah 2 tahun
Untuk Monbusho U to U , jangka waktu beasiswa research student adalah 1.5 tahun

4. Pengurusan keberangkatan ke Jepang
Untuk Monbusho G to G, pengurusan keberangkatan ke Jepang di urus atau dibantu oleh pihak kedutaan Jepang. Kedatangan di Jepang di jemput dan diatur oleh AIEJ (Association International Education Japan).
Untuk Monbusho U to U, pengurusan keberangkatan ke Jepang di urus sendiri, tidak ada hubungan dengan kedutaan Jepang, hanya pihak kedutaan Jepang meminta laporan data tentang calon sebelum keberangkatan. Dan kedatangan di Jepang di jemput atau diurus oleh Professornya.

General Information

Nyenrode Business Universiteit has set up a scholarship intended for nationals of the country of Indonesia, who would like to enroll in the International MBA (IMBA) program at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. Besides the scholarship in the amount of € 10.000, a coach will be assigned to the recipient of the scholarship during his/her study.

Scholarship essay topic and deadline

Candidates wishing to be considered for the scholarship are challenged to discuss in no more than 1500 words (three A4s) Indonesia`s role in the global economy. The candidate should discuss why Indonesia should be viewed as a considerable economic power, especially in Asia, and how the Nyenrode MBA will help the candidate to strengthen the country`s economic position in a sustainable way. In addition to the content, the essay will also be assessed as to writing style and power of persuasion.

The essay should be submitted to scholarships@nyenrode.nl by May 31, 2007.
Please be reminded that for consideration for a scholarship, the IMBA application package should be submitted to the Admissions Office before this date.

Scholarship process

A Nyenrode committee will screen all written scholarship applications and will select no more than three candidates for the final round. In June/July, these candidates will be invited for an interview with the Nyenrode scholarship jury. The candidates will be asked to give a short presentation about their essay. The interview will take 30 minutes. Should the candidate live abroad, the interview can be conducted by telephone or video conferencing. The jury will make a decision regarding allocation of the scholarship to one of the three candidates after the interview. The committee and the jury reserve the right not to award the scholarship in the event that there are no candidates who meet the below-mentioned criteria. The outcome of the scholarship competition will be announced in July, 2007.

Candidate profile

The Cedo Nulli Scholarship for Indonesian Talent is intended for students with a completed bachelor`s or master`s degree. Candidates must have submitted their application package for the International MBA program in order to be considered for the scholarship competition. The winning candidate will only be awarded the scholarship once he/she has completed the remainder of the admissions process and has been admitted to the International MBA program. The sum of €10.000 will be deducted from 2nd installment of the tuition fee. The candidate is responsible for the financing of the remainder of any tuition fees, living costs and other expenses incurred.

The award winner will receive a prize and a 4-month fellowship at one of the 56 Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany. The respective Fraunhofer Institute will provide scientific guidance and supervision in the candidates’ fields of interest.

The monthly stipend will be Euro 1.840. In addition, the international travel costs will be borne and the winner will receive Euro 3.000 prize money. Thirteen speakers from around the world from a variety of disciplines will explore the theme of water in the Islamic lands from southern Europe to South Asia from the 7th century to the present. Topics range from the supply and distribution of water to its role in religion and popular culture.

Attendance at the Rivers of Paradise: Water in Islamic Art and Culture Symposium in Doha, Qatar is an opportunity for advanced students and other scholars from around the world to meet and interact with one another. The fellowship will also allow students and scholars to visit Doha, one of the fastest-growing Islamic Art centers in the Middle East.

10 Full MPhil/PhD Studentships School of Humanities and Social Sciencesincorporating The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HuSS) at the University of Exeter is pleased to offer 10 full studentships annually to students studying in the School, in addition to many externally funded awards supporting students from AHRC, ESRC, ORS and other privately endowed places.

For entry in 2007/08, each School award is provided to the value of £38,820, over three years. This provides successful candidates with direct payment of their tuition fees (at the standard UK rate), with a maintenance allowance to pay for accommodation and living expenses, and with payment for limited teaching and other duties contributed to their home discipline department. (International applicants should note that they will have to pay the difference between standard UK fees and international fees, in 2007-8 this will be £5,850.)

The awards are made to full-time students, are subject to enrolment and annual progression, and candidates are selected on academic merit. Only research applicants in receipt of an offer for the MPhil/PhD will be considered for an award, with a cut-off date of 17 June 2007 . The expectation is that all eligible students will also have made concurrent applications to the relevant Research Councils` competitive schemes for their discipline area (i.e., AHRC, ESRC). No separate application form is required.

In 2007/08, the School will make a minimum of 10 awards across the Humanities and Social Sciences departments:

3 awards in Politics and International Relations

1 award in Arab and Islamic Studies

Innovative interdisciplinary awards are particularly welcomed given the close academic synergies supported throughout the School.

Awards are normally confirmed to successful candidates from mid July annually.

The School also operates an annual research expenses scheme to support students incidental expenses and conference travel during their studies, provides dedicated and shared workstations or laptops in new and refurbished facilities created in 2006/07, and provides approximately three quarters of a million pounds towards direct and indirect support for PhDs students annually as part of annual budget setting.

The Team Marine Photosynthetic Prokaryotes (Station Biologique de Roscoff, France) seeks motivated and innovative persons interested in investigating the diversity, distribution and ecological significance of photoheterotrophs in diverse marine environments. The aim will be:

to quantify and link the abundance and activity of photoheterotrophs with the physicochemical and biological parameters of their original environment.
to determine their spatial (longitudinal and vertical) and temporal (annual cycle) variations of the composition of natural populations.

Experience required:
The successful candidate will join the team “Marine Photosynthetic Prokaryotes”. Applicants must have a strong background in microbial ecology and molecular biology. They should have a good working knowledge in the biology of marine planktonic bacteria and prior experience in molecular analysis of microorganisms (e.g. DGGE, FISH, library construction, sequencing, RT- and Q-PCR). Experience in phylogeny is necessary.

[Norway] Postdoctoral Position in Biochemistry/Biophysics, University of Oslo

A three-year position is available at the Department of Molecular Biosciences (IMBV) on the project Personnel for biological Raman and magnetic circular dichroism studies funded by the Research Council of Norway.

The project is studies with half time (resonance) Raman studies and second half on other spectroscopic techniques of several iron proteins (heme and none heme), other metallo and radical proteins and inorganic (biomimetic) models studies with Raman/IR, other vibrational spectroscopies, EPR, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and start setting up new techniques like magnetic circular dichroism at UiO if we could obtain funding for magnet and instrument. We will use advanced spectroscopic/magnetic techniques, kinetics and other active site/protein structure methods. We continue on single protein-crystal spectroscopy and crystallography techniques developed for our 1.20-1.35 Å resolution reactive oxygen-iron species, using newly installed Raman (Horiba JY triple mode T6400 with Spectra Physics lasers) and EPR instruments at Depts of Chemistry and Physics.

The project will be conducted in Professor K. Kristoffer Andersson’s research group. Prof. Andersson speaks French also. At the moment there are one postdoctoral fellow, three Ph.D. students, and one MSc student in the group. The incoming candidate will closely collaborate with two Ph.D. students.

The applicant should have a Ph. D. or equivalent degree in one of the following fields: structural molecular biology, physical biochemistry, molecular biophysics or bio-inorganic chemistry. Applicants that will complete their Ph D degree by end of August or first week of September may also apply. Earliest starting date 1 of July 2007 applicant should start at IMBV before middle of September. Experience working with protein or bio-inorganic chemistry is also required. Good applicants that also have advanced optical and/or magnetic skills or previous worked on metalloproteins will be preferred. Applicants may be requested to come for an interview. Applicants may be also be considered for the second post doctoral with 100% biological Raman.

The Hamad Bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art strives to foster the development of an international community of researchers and scholars in Islamic art and cultures. Terms and Conditions of Scholarship/ Fellowship awards under the Malaysian Technical Co-operation Programme (MTCP)

1. General Conditions of Award:

Participants never participate in any MTCP or being awarded scholarship/ awards under the programme. Participants shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner compatible with their responsibilities as MTCP scholarship holders and abide by the laws, rules and regulations of the land and FOSEE, MMU. This scholarship can not be held concurrently with any other scholarship award. For lectures, participants are required to dress in long-sleeved shirts with ties, tailored pant and blazer or uniform. For formal occasions – suit, national costume or batiks. Ladies should be appropriately dressed in office attire.

Participants shall follow the programme approved for them. Request for change of programme will not be entertained. Participants should participate in all activities related to the programme. Participants are not allowed to participate in any political and/or commercial activities in any capacity whatsoever. Participants shall not take up paid employment during the tenure of their scholarship or serve on the staff of their Official Representatives in Malaysia.

Participants are NOT allowed to bring along their spouses or families for the duration of the course. Participants will be required to return to their own countries upon completion of the course or at the end of the tenure of the scholarship whichever is earlier.

The award may be terminated at any time for the reasons of unsatisfactory conduct, breaches of the conditions of the award, or failure to make satisfactory progress.

2. Travel Documents and Vaccination:

Persons seeking to enter Malaysia must be in possession of valid passports or other internationally recognized travel documents endorsed for travel to Malaysia. Such passports or other travel documents must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the period of stay allowed in Malaysia. In the case of a national passport not recognized by Malaysia, the holder must be in possession of a document in lieu of a passport obtained at the nearest Malaysian Mission abroad.

Travelers from certain countries are required to produce the Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate and other health certificates at the entry point in Malaysia..

3. Terms and Condition Covered by the MTCP for International Participants:

Fares
A return air ticket on economy class is provided. This is from the capital city of the recipient country to Kuala Lumpur and back. Expenditures such as Visa and transit fees, excess baggage fees are borne by the recipients.

Maintenance Allowance
Full board and accommodation
Daily subsistence allowance will be given if food and accommodation are not made available, especially during attachment or study-tour, other similar arrangements will be made.

Tuition Fees
Tuition fees will be borne by the Malaysian Government under the MTCP.

Medical Treatment
Expenses for medical treatment in government hospitals/clinics will be borne by the Government of Malaysia if participants fell sick during the course. The candidate is expected to be a talented, innovative and enthusiastic researcher with a Ph.D awarded within the last five years in Cognitive Neuroscience or related disciplines to work on fMRI projects on body image, multisensory processing, or self-awareness.

The THz-Electronics group at the Institute of High-Frequency and Quantum Electronics is seeking a world-class researcher to join the team in the area of Microwave Circuit-Design (PostDoc) for a duration of at least 2 years (extension possible). The salary is according TVöD E13.

Job Description

The successful candidate will join a motivated research team to work on innovative Terahertz (THz) Technologies. The primary research interest is the development of novel circuits and materials for highly integrated terahertz detectors. The research will provide the fundamental understanding to enable THz video chips with real-time capabilities in the future.

Artificial engineered materials (Metamaterials) as well as existing semiconductor technologies like Silicon-Germanium will be leveraged to the extend possible to create miniaturized antennas and detector arrays. Teaching and the participation in administrative tasks is expected with at least 4 hours per week. The opportunity for the development of an independent scientific career will be supported by extensive publications and international conference presentations.

Desired Skills

Major Field of Study: PhD in electronic engineering or physics. The ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of microwave (50-200GHz) circuit design and packaging. Circuit design experience in at least one of the following building blocks is required: PAs, mixers (active, passive), VCO/PLL, LNAs. The candidate should understand the Cadence software design flow for Silicon ICs and have high-frequency test and measurement experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills are beneficial.

You should have a good first degree in a relevant quantitative field such as theoretical physics, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics etc and a strong interest in molecular biology.

The overall goal of this multidisciplinary project is to combine functional genomics and computational modelling into a novel integrative systems approach aimed at identifying key components of the regulatory networks involved in cell physiology. T

he project aims to develop a computational framework based on a probabilistic modelling technique (Bayesian state-space models), within the context of real-world scientific problems.

In this project we propose innovative directions to significantly extend this network modelling approach, incorporating into the model learning and inference process nonlinearities that reflect the underlying biological mechanisms and prior knowledge in the form of known connections. In the first phase of this research, the focus will be to develop the computational framework to effectively model the temporal gene expression profiles of a subset of genes derived from differential expression profiling. The second phase of this work will involve a tightly coupled iterative cycle of computational modelling and independent experimental validation of model predictions using over-expression and gene silencing experiments by collaborating groups. The new computational tools will be developed in the context of real-world scientific problems: the understanding of stress response in the model plant species Arabidopsis at a molecular level and metabolic regulation in the bacteria Streptomyces, major producers of antibiotics and bioactive products. These are well-defined systems of biological interest that can be easily manipulated experimentally and for which genomic information and the necessary investigative tools are available

The Aga Khan Foundation Scholarships for Master and PhD

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is also willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, when doctoral degrees are necessary for the career objectives of the student. Requests will also be considered for travel and study awards for PhD students doing their research in Third World countries on topics judged to be of interest to the Aga Khan Development Network.

Applications for short-term courses are not considered; neither are applications from students who have already started their course of study.

Selection Criteria. The main criteria for selecting award winners are:

l) excellent academic records,
2) genuine financial need,
3) admission to a reputable institution of higher learning and
4) thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans.

Candidates are also evaluated on their extra-curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment. Applicants are expected to have some years of work experience in their field of interest.

Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.

Financial Assistance:
The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships. Applicants are requested to make every effort to obtain funding from other sources as well, so that the amount requested from the Foundation can be reduced to a minimum. Preference is given to those who have been able to secure some funding from alternative sources.

Loan Conditions:
Half of the scholarship amount is considered as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Funding notes:
The Foundation accepts applications from countries where it has branches, affiliates or other AKDN agencies which can help with processing applications and interviewing applicants. A three years Ph. D. position is available in the DFG-project "Interactions of the tropical Indian Ocean and the tropical Atlantic Ocean with ENSO" (keyword: TROIA)

The IFM-GEOMAR is one of the world wide leading institutes for marine and climate science. The institute has one of its main research foci on the role of the ocean in the climate system and on natural, past, present and future climate change. The IFM-GEOMAR has an interdisciplinary research environment with more then 200 researchers from all over the world. The project is part of the research group of Prof. Mojib Latif and Prof. Dietmar Dommenget, which has a lively, active and international atmosphere.

We are looking for a person, which is highly motivated and has a very good master, Diploma or equivalent degree in physics, mathematics, oceanography, meteorology or equivalent. The projects focuses on the interaction between the tropical Indian and Atlantic Ocean with the El Niño / Southern Oscillation (ENSO) mode. The ENSO mode is the most dominant mode of natural climate variability on interannual time scales. The project shall make a contribution to a better understanding and prediction of the ENSO mode. The study shall focus on model simulations with complex atmosphere-ocean general circulation models running on supercomputers, analysis of observed and simulated data and the development of simple conceptual models.

Candidates should be interested in working with model simulations, statistical analysis and should be interested in the development of simple theoretical models. Requirements for the candidate are a very good physical/mathematic al understanding, interest in programming and a high motivation for an independent and creative study.

Fleishman Civil Society Fellows Program provides a select group of leaders from nonprofit organizations, international NGOs, foundations, government, socially responsible businesses, and other civil society groups with the opportunity to spend a four-week residential sabbatical at Duke University’s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy.

While at Duke, Fellows perform research and work with Institute faculty and other Duke affiliates on issues related to the development of civil society. The Graduate School offers a high-level PhD programme with research opportunities in cellular, molecular, developmental, physiological, neuro-and evolutionary genetics and genomics. Plant, animal and microbial systems are equally well represented.

The three-year programme starts with a six-month rotation and course period, followed by a PhD project in one of the participating groups. Seminars and training courses complement the research work. Comprehensive support is provided throughout the programme. The programme language is English, and no tuitions apply.

10 competitive three-year fellowships (initially 1000 EUR, then 1300 EUR per month) are available. In addition, up to 10 students with self-provided funding may be selected as associates.

For the remaining 18 months the candidate will be at Copenhagen Business School as a part of the Department of Intercultural Communication and Management’s Media Hub.

This PhD call invites research proposals that explore the relationship between mediation and cosmopolitanism across media technologies (print, electronic or new) and media practices (production, dissemination or consumption), with a specific emphasis on the ethical dimensions of mediation. The scholarship, granted by the Danish Research Council, will fund a PhD project that i) investigates the ways different media technologies, practices and representations negotiate tensions between the private and the public, the proximal and the distant, the self and the ‘other’; ii) discusses the implications that such technologies practices and representations may bear on our ethical orientation vis a vis distant others and iii) reflects on the possibilities for transforming and improving such technologies, practices and/or representations in line with the vision of a cosmopolitan public space.

A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years and is only awarded to applicants with a Master’s degree.

The scholarship stipulates that the holder carry out tasks equivalent to 840 work hours.

Salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement.

Beginning February 15, 2007, the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities at Northwestern University will accept applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships commencing September 1, 2007. Competitive applicants will be engaged in interdisciplinary scholarship in the Humanities (broadly defined).

Fellows will be affiliated with the Institute and will also have an affiliation with a department. In each year fellows will teach three small- to medium-scale Humanities courses (one per quarter). A portion of these will be offered in the new Kaplan Freshman Humanities Scholars Program, which is organized around the rubric, “The Good Society,” with the remainder to be offered through the Humanities Institute or a home department. Fellows will also participate in the intellectual life of the Institute and conduct their own research.

Terms of employment:

The PhD scholarship is for a 3-year period. It can be awarded to persons with a Master’s degree or students who expect to obtain their Master’s degree in the near future.

As part of the PhD scholarship the successful candidate will be enrolled in a PhD programme comprising a number of courses within the relevant research area.

Applicants are expected to be willing to spend up to 6 months at a foreign university as part of the scholarship. A postdoctoral research fellowship is available to develop novel synthetic methodologies appropriate for array synthesis and to use these methodologies in array synthesis of drug-like molecules.

The research effort will be based in alternating years at Leeds and at GlaxoSmithKline's Stevenage research centre. A commitment to complete periods of work at both sites will be highly important. You will have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and will have a strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry and the mechanisation/automation of synthesis and purification. You will also have good IT skills in order to handle large amounts of data.

This post is available from 01 April 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of up to 4 years (dependent on starting salary).

Students from Asian developing nations are offered the opportunity to pursue their master's or doctoral studies in fields relating to sustainable poverty reduction at one of Asia 's leading postgraduate institutions.

Master's and doctoral scholarships will be provided to students from seven partner countries of the Netherlands in Asia, i.e., Afghanistan , Bangladesh , Indonesia , Mongolia , Pakistan , Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The Netherlands Ministry for Development Cooperation and the Asian Institute of Technology have partnered to offer a program called "Human Resource Development for Asian Partner Countries" from October 2006 to December 2009.

The scholarships cover the costs of degree programs in fields relevant to sustainable development, environmental protection and the promotion of gender equity. The three focal areas are water engineering and management, rural development and sustainable use of natural resources, and urban environmental management.

Water engineering and management includes waterways and coastal engineering, irrigation engineering, water resources and water supply drainage. Expertise areas also include water transport, flood control, beach protection, erosion, water supply and wastewater collection and sewerage treatment systems, and integrated watershed development management.

Rural development and sustainable use of natural resources addresses rural development and the need to consider economic productivity versus the necessity to conserve rural areas. In AIT many programs aim to contribute to technology to stimulate rural developments including agricultural and food engineering, bioprocess technology, aquaculture and aquatic resources management, pulp and paper technology, natural resources management, as well as regional and rural development planning.

Urban environmental management addresses the sustainable development of
urbanized areas as many of the partner countries are facing rapid urbanization. Thus, the concerns should address urban economy and living environment, conservation of urban natural environments and greening, prevention of environmental deterioration, impacts of urbanization, urban transportation, urban affordable sanitation and sewage treatment. Urban environmental management focuses on the utilization of human and other resources to improve and maintain the quality of urban areas.

• Scholarship recipients will be selected according to AIT's admission
criteria, rules and regulations to ensure that the most suitable candidates are admitted based on an assessment of the needs in the Netherlands ' seven partner countries in Asia .

• At least 40 per cent of the scholarships will be offered to women
candidates.

• After successful completion of graduate studies and professional training in AIT, the scholarship recipients are obliged to return to their home countries for strengthening institutional capacities and contributing in building sustainable societies.

• Recipients are required to conduct thesis research on topics relevant to their respective home country's development needs incorporating environmental protection and sustainable development concerns.

• A scholarships provides grants for tuition and fees, monthly stipend, medical insurance, educational visa and one round trip air travel.

• For the master's program, preference will be given to staff of public sector agencies, government departments, training institutions and universities.

Doctoral degree program candidates must be certified by their local employers to study abroad and must have re-employment contracts to ensure that they return back to work after their completion of the doctoral degree program at AIT. (b) Travel expenses for returning home
At the conclusion of the term of the scholarship, an economy class air ticket shall be provided from New Tokyo International Airport (or from the closest international airport to the university where the student has been admitted, if this is financially more viable for Monbukagakusho) to the international airport closest to the place of the studentâ€™s residence ( in the country in which the student holds citizenship), in the case that the student plans to return home by the designated date.

The Duncan Norman Research Scholarship in University of Liverpool [UK]

The Duncan Norman Research Scholarship at the University of Liverpool was established in 2004 following the receipt of a generous donation from The Duncan Norman Charitable Trust in memory of the late Mr Duncan Norman. The objective of the Scholarship is to enable academically gifted students who also have the personal qualities to make them leaders in society, to pursue MPhil/PhD study at the University of Liverpool. The Scholarship may be used to fund research in any University department. The University has established an Advisory Panel of internationally renowned persons to oversee the award of the Scholarship.

The Scholarship is available to all prospective full time postgraduate research students, irrespective of nationality or tuition fee status (i.e. whether UK, EU or overseas). To be eligible for consideration, prospective students must have had their application for MPhil/PhD research approved by the University by the application deadline. One Scholarship shall be awarded annually, and competition therefore is very strong. Only students who already hold, or are likely to attain in forthcoming examinations, a first class honours degree (or its equivalent) are likely to be considered by the Advisory Panel. The Scholarship is available to new students only. Students currently registered for MPhil/PhD research at the University are ineligible to apply.

The Scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a maintenance stipend and other benefits, including accommodation on the University campus to a total value of £20,000 per year. The Scholarship is awarded for one year in the first instance, but subject to satisfactory academic programme, will be renewed for a total period of up to three years.

PhD Positions in (Bio)-Electrochemistry - Electrocatalysis, University of Bordeaux I

These two Ph-D proposals are part of a challenging project consisting in making new glucose/O2 Biofuel cells. As the size of microelectronic circuits and of sensors shrinks, the size of the low-power sensor-transmitter package (of potential value in physiological research and in medicine) becomes increasingly dependent on the size of its power source. The miniature biofuel cells are likely to meet the need for a small power source in low power sensor-transmitter systems. After considerable further development, the cell will power implanted autonomous sensor-transmitter systems of relevance to physiological research and to medicine, for example by monitoring the temperature at a site following surgery, indicative of inflammation.

The miniature biofuel cell will resemble the glucose-air biofuel cell we already reported. The operational power density of a biofuel cell depends mainly on: (I) the operating voltage; (II) the limiting turnover rates of the anodic and the cathodic bioelectrocatalysts, defining the current density when mass transport is not limiting, (III) the specific surface of the electrode, and (IV) the stability of the biofuel cell. The proposed research will address each of these points.

The positions are limited to a maximum of three years.

The Ian Wark Research Institute has an internship program available to senior undergraduate students from overseas universities/institutes to attend The Wark as part of their required study program.

Subject to project availability and funding, The Wark accepts approximately ten internship students each year. This internship period can last from four months up to one year. Located just south of Atlanta and only a few hours from the Atlantic coast, Georgia College & State University is recognized as one of the foremost public liberal arts universities in the United States. Nearly 150 international students from 50 countries are currently enrolled, and Georgia College is widely recognized for the quality support it gives to international students.

Scholarships
Many of our undergraduates receive the International Student Scholarship, and nearly all graduate students receive some type of assistanship. We hope to encourage academically outstanding students to apply for this financial aid.

Undergraduate Financial Aid

International Student Scholarships (ISS)
These scholarships are awarded as either a full out-of-state tuition waiver or a half out-of-state tuition waiver, and are awarded on the basis of demonstrated academic ability, evidence of extracurricular involvement and financial need. To be considered for the ISS, applicants must have on file a completed application for admission and completed ISS application by the stated deadline. Those international students who have not been awarded an ISS prior to attendance at GCSU can compete once a year for a limited number of available ISSs. Scholarships for Incoming Freshman
Students who are admitted by February 1 are automatically considered for most academic scholarships. Those students who apply by November 1 are given preference. The selection process is highly competitive. For more information, click here.

Athletic Scholarships
Students eligible to play on one of the GCSU intercollegiate athletic teams (tennis, baseball, softball, basketball, golf, or cross country) may qualify for athletic scholarships. Interested students should contact the appropriate athletic coach. See the athletic Web site.

CN Yang Scholars Programme International Undergraduate Scholarships NTU

The CN Yang Scholars Programme is a premier undergraduate programme at Nanyang Technological University for science and engineering students. The programme is named in honour of Professor CN Yang, Nobel Laureate in Physics (1957) and one of the greatest scientists of our era.

Eligibility Criteria
The Scholars Programme is open to all nationalities.

Candidates with international qualifications should have outstanding academic results and extra-curricular activities. Candidates should have offered Advanced Mathematics, Phyiscs and Chemistry at High School level and will be required to offer these subjects at the University Entrance Examination, if shortlisted.

Application Procedure
Application for the Scholars Programme for international students is open. The closing date for the Scholars Programme is the same as the application for admission.

Terms and Conditions
Students on the CN Yang Scholars Programme will be awarded the Nanyang Scholarship which covers the entire duration of the undergraduate studies on condition that scholars maintain a minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 3.5 over 5. The academic performance is monitored on a semester basis.

The Nanyang Scholarship ceases once the student is no longer placed on the CN Yang Scholars Programme.

The scholarship covers the following:

Tuition fee directly payable by students (after Tuition Grant)

Living allowance of $6,000 per annum

Book allowance of $500 per annum

Computer allowance of $1,500 (One-off)

Settling in allowance of $250 (One-off)

The CN Yang Scholar would be guaranteed a place in the hall of residence during the 4 years of his undergraduate life.

Candidates in receipt of other scholarships are not eligible for the Nanyang Scholarship.

There is no bond attached to the Nanyang Scholarship apart from the 3-year bond applicable to all foreign students under the Tuition Grant Scheme.

False information or willful suppression of material facts will render your application disqualified, or if the Scholarship is awarded to you, the award will be invalid and you will be required to pay back the amounts received.

Eligible Courses
The CN Yang Scholars Programme is tenable for the pursuit of any Science and Engineering course in NTU except Maritime Studies.

The School of Chemistry is delighted to offer bursaries to support privately funded students from outside the UK and the EU who succeed in gaining a place on one of our undergraduate programmes. There are a variety of different schemes available.

Bursaries for overseas students entering Year 1 or Year 2 of our degrees
A bursary of £3000 each year will be offered to all overseas students (from outside the EU/ UK) who meet, in full, the conditions of their academic offer.

Conditions

The bursary will be paid in two equal instalments at the end of each teaching semester and will be subject to the payment of tuition fees as required by the university.

Payment of the second instalment will be made subject to the above condition and is conditional on the bursary holder meeting, in full, the academic requirements to proceed to their next year of study.

Bursaries for overseas students entering our Foundation Year in Science (Year 0)
A bursary of £2000 will be offered to all overseas students (from outside the EU/ UK) who meet, in full, the conditions of their academic offer and enrol on the Foundation Year in Science (F108)

Conditions

The bursary will be paid in two equal instalments at the end of each teaching semester and will be subject to the payment of tuition fees as required by the university.

Payment of the second instalment will be made subject to the above condition and is conditional on the bursary holder meeting, in full, the academic requirements to join a BSc/ MChem programme in chemistry and then enrolling on their chosen course in the academic year following completion of their Foundation Course.

An overseas graduate of the Foundation Year in Science will be eligible for the £3000 per year bursary once they join Year 1 of the BSc or MChem degree.

Bursaries for Channel Island/ Isle of Man students with A level qualifications
CI and IoM students will be eligible for a bursary throughout each year of their degree. The level of the bursary is determined by their A level performance: £500 is available for each grade A obtained in chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics.

Conditions

The bursary will be paid in two equal instalments at the end of each teaching semester and will be subject to the payment of tuition fees as required by the university.

THz Bandwidth Photodetectors

As part of our work within the EPSRC funded PORTRAIT project - a collaborative project between UCL, University of Essex, University of Bath and the University of Leeds and industrial partners- we wish to recruit a research student to the Photonics Group to work on THz bandwidth photodiodes under the supervision of Professor Alwyn Seeds.

The objective of the research project is to study waveguide uni-travelling carrier photodiodes integrated with antennas for signal generation in the THz frequency region. The work will focus particularly on design studies to find the optimum solution for achieving the highest responsivity and the highest bandwidth possible with the detector and to design novel antennas for efficient emission of the THz signal. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with our collaborators and industrial partners and the resulting interactions will provide an exceptionally rich research environment.

For the research studentship, we are seeking a talented graduate, having at least an upper second class honours degree (first class honours preferred) or equivalent in electronic engineering or physics. Experience of optoelectronics, microwave and semiconductor device technology would be most desirable.

The studentship is for three years and provides payment of tuition fees at the UK/EU rate plus a £14,000 per annum (normally tax free) contribution to living expenses. For non-EU students there would be the possibility to enter the Overseas Research Studentship competition to obtain remission of the difference between UK/EU and overseas tuition fees in the second and third years of the studentship.

Applicants must fulfil EPSRC eligibility criteria and the normal academic requirements for acceptance for postgraduate study in the Department.

The Graduate School of Social Sciences (GSSS) at the University of Bremen
invites applications to its 3-year Ph.D. program from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2010. The GSSS is part of an international network of graduate education and is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.

The GSSS offers 9 stipends for Ph.D. fellows of € 1000/month for 36 months, contingent on successful completion of each year. Funding is also available for empirical research and travel.
