[France] Postdoctoral Position in Marine Microbiology

The Team Marine Photosynthetic Prokaryotes (Station Biologique de Roscoff, France) seeks motivated and innovative persons interested in investigating the diversity, distribution and ecological significance of photoheterotrophs in diverse marine environments. The aim will be:
  1. to quantify and link the abundance and activity of photoheterotrophs with the physicochemical and biological parameters of their original environment.
  2. to determine their spatial (longitudinal and vertical) and temporal (annual cycle) variations of the composition of natural populations.

Experience required:
The successful candidate will join the team “Marine Photosynthetic Prokaryotes”. Applicants must have a strong background in microbial ecology and molecular biology. They should have a good working knowledge in the biology of marine planktonic bacteria and prior experience in molecular analysis of microorganisms (e.g. DGGE, FISH, library construction, sequencing, RT- and Q-PCR). Experience in phylogeny is necessary.

The team will select a candidate whose experience and publications in the field will allow him (her) to compete for a tenured position at CNRS during the two years of the post-doc position. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are highly required.

Restrictive conditions on the candidatures:
